Register now to attend our FREE December '06 Technology Matters Event where we will have speakers from the University's Computing and Communications Systems Departments and representatives from the Private Sector discussing how they have worked together to commercialise academic research to produce viable commercial products. This event will be of interest to members of academic community and private sector alike and is a great opportunity to see the tangible results of collaboration between the academic community at InfoLab21 and regional business.

Simple Solutions, formed in 2003 by dedicated professionals, is a technical distributor and integrator for wireless embedded communications products. Their aim is to make the design and use of such products as easy as possible by the supply of correctly matched accessories and strong technical support, all at market competitive pricing.
Jack Straw MP, speaking in the House of
Commons on October 26, stated:
"The huge increase in developments and in co-operation between universities
and business over the past few years, including in Lancashire and by the University
of Lancaster, has been impressive." Jack Straw was responding to the
Morecambe and Lunesdale MP Geraldine Smith, who, along with
the Deputy Leader of the House Nigel Griffiths MP, recently
visited InfoLab21 Associate Company In-Touch Ltd, who work
in close collaboration with Lancaster University.
The KBC has welcomed new University Spin out company The Research Engine this month. The Research Engine is a specialist organisation providing research related services to the academic community in the UK. The company works closely with academics to integrate data collection and data analysis services in order to accelerate the publishing process.

Their ethos is to be creative in ideas, products and business and they are about to launch their first product, ready to exploit the convergence of media, mobile and internet industries.

InfoLab21’s Computing Department hosted a visit by the Simula Research Laboratory, Oslo, Norway this month. InfoLab21 hopes to collaborate with Simula in from joint research to collaborative projects involving industry on topics like computer communication, resilience and middleware.

awarded to a Computing undergraduate for a novel project looking at how drivers'
personalities affect traffic flow.

InfoLab21 Inventors Omer Rashid and Will Bamford of Lancaster University picked up their prize for PAC-LAN, the first game in the world to use mobile phones equipped with Radio Frequency Identification Tags, at the American Film Institute this month. American music legend Quincy Jones made a guest appearance.
2006 Annual Scholarship Awards Reception
The Computing Department is leading the €3.8m AMPLE project (Aspect-Oriented, Model-driven, Product Line Engineering) funded by the European Commission which involves three European software industry organisations and six academic institutions.
According to a recent survey from researcher Netcraft, the Internet has reached and surpassed a landmark figure in terms of site volume. In the past month, the Internet has spawned another 3.5 million websites, bringing the total volume to more than 100 million, according to web research specialist Netcraft.
