I am a programmer with 13 years experience on a range of research and commercial software developments. Prior to working in Infolab21, I worked in computing research. My current role involves consulting with companies to analyse their technology requirements. Once system requirements are finalised, I supervise members of the graduate team in the development, testing and deployment of the new software.

As Project Technical Officer I am responsible for supervising and ensuring quality in the delivery of projects to clients. My work is varied, ranging from bespoke web application development through to research-based work, ICT appraisals and systems and networking advice. Having gained experience in the industry by working as an IT manager for a leading printing and marketing firm in Lancashire, I have developed skills relating to business software, databases, networking and programming. I hold current Microsoft certifications and I am continuing my professional development this year undertaking a Certificate in Network and Systems Programming. My other work interests include free and open-source software, information security and continued learning. I also like to keep up to date with current news and developments in the technology arena.

I joined the KBC in January 2006 after completing my part-time PhD studies at InfoLab21’s Computing Department in Reflective Middleware with the Next Generation Middleware Group. Since then, I have helped set up and run the InfoLab21 Student Academy which primarily offers regional Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) an opportunity to leverage the academic and student resource within InfoLab21’s Computing Department and Communication Systems Department. My role in the KBC involves technical supervision of the students in order to ensure all agreed deliverables such as ICT solutions, products, services, and infrastructure are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.
Before joining the KBC, I worked in industry for two years as a Systems Analyst with a leading multinational consumer goods manufacturer. I then joined the Computing Department where I worked on a number of EU funded projects as a Researcher for a period of five years.
