Cable Sense Ltd
Cable Sense is a University spin-out company, established to develop a patent-protected technology for non-invasive interrogation of the physical layer of networked infrastructure.
The technology enables the network cable status and connectivity information to be determined without disruption to the cable connection or information integrity.
Cable Sense is designing cable scanning products, to be used in a telecommunications room or an office server environment, which will automate management of computer network cabling.
The technology is able to:
- Map connections between two points (e.g. patch panel and workstation)
- Streamline implementation of moves, additions and changes to a network
- Minimize redundancy by identifying unused ports
- Minimize downtime by reducing time to detect and identify failure
- Provide a continuous audit of a network
- Identify and locate unauthorized network connections
- Provide a user-friendly graphical interface allowing access to real-time network information, overlaid on CAD floor plan of installation
The product has the following advantages over competitive systems:
- Can be retro-fitted
- No loss of service during installation
- Compatible with all brands of patch panel or cabling
- No special procedures required when making connections
- Scales well from small remote installations to large data centres
